TRAVEL ADVISORY 20250415: BUFFALO COUNTY, NEBRASKA
A travel advisory is issued for Nation member Tribes, Bands and Clan members traveling in or near central southern Nebraska. On April 15, 2025, the Nation's Department of Justice filed a treaty violation notice with the U.S. Department of State after a tribal member, traveling in a private vehicle was detained by Kearney, Nebraska police officers. During the incident a person identifying himself as a Kearney police officer seized the front and rear license Houkeai Nation vehicle license plates. The treaties of 1811 and 1812 both contain language assuring that the government of the United States, in perpetuity, assures that all tribal citizens will be afforded free, unfettered, unrestricted travel throughout any lands claimed or protected by the United States. Any citizen experiencing any interruption in their travels in this region are urged to notify the Central Services Office in Dallas, Texas at 214-444-8674.
TRAVEL ADVISORY 20250305: CONTINENTAL NORTH AMERICA
A travel advisory is issued for Nation member Tribes, Bands and Clan members traveling in North America. On March 1, 2025, several National Citizens, traveling in a private vehicle in southwest Texas reported being accosted and detained by persons identifying themselves as "federal agents" affiliated with the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. On March 5, 2025 the Nation's Department of Justice filed a treaty violation notice with the U.S. Department of State. The treaties of 1811 and 1812 both contain language assuring that the government of the United States, in perpetuity, assures that all tribal citizens will be afforded free, unfettered, unrestricted travel throughout any lands claimed or protected by the United States. Any citizen experiencing any interruption in their travels in this region are urged to notify the Central Services Office in Dallas, Texas at 214-444-8674. UPDATE MARCH 29, 2025: Following informal resolution discussions with representatives of Homeland Security, it is agreed that representatives of the U.S. government will instruct field staff to exercise increased sensitivity to the sovereign Tribal and Treaty rights of National Citizens. Citizens are urged to carry their National Enrollment Cards on their person and show them to Homeland agents if questioned as to citizenship.
